I was fortunate enough to realize that I have dug myself into a financial rut a few years ago and straightened things out. Aside from my mortgage at this point I am pretty much debt free. I do live with the fear of losing my job and would have a very hard time finding a similar position and salary.

I really feel for the people and families that are struggling. You're right it is sad.
