I am a university professor of voice who is also a singer-songwriter-arranger-producer of a provocative new CD project, MOTHERLESS CHILD. MOTHERLESS CHILD is the culmination of years of research and performances of the African-American spiritual (not the same as gospel). Having lectured on the spiritual for many years, I was compelled to produce an album of contemporary spiritual arrangements that moves the spiritual out of the confines of academia and "classical" music into the mainstream.
