
druChristine Couture (formerly druewho?)
“….Fashion fades, style is eternal” is the motto and mission statement of the designer company, druChristine Couture. As a designer, Andrea Pope Thompson, talents have been showcased in many levels; from costume designer and stylist of local celebrities to fashion show producer and writer, her talents in the areas of fashion covers them all. Her tenacity and persistence in all levels of fashion has made the druewho? name a mainstay in this revolving door of designers in the fashion industry. Although druewho? built a mass popularity, in an effort to ‘grow up’ with its customer base, the designer decided to change the name from druewho? to druChristine Couture, LLC.
Self taught in sewing and design by the age of 13, Andrea’s passion for the art of design continued through college where the designer honed her skills and furthered her love for the art as Drue began to produce and participate in several fashion shows showcasing minority students.
Shortly after graduation from The University of Akron, the designer relocated to Los Angeles where she worked as a costume designer and stylist. While in Los Angeles, Drue was trained to make the world famous, patented Playboy Bunny costumes (there were only a few people trained to make these costumes). Drue also worked as costume designer for the Pay per View Television series “Rock and Wrestling’”. Additionally, the talents of this designer have been featured in various television programs, feature films and magazines as well as music videos.
Upon her return to Cleveland, Drue worked to market her apparel for the ‘Urban Sophisticate’ through several avenues. By Summer 1999, druewho? apparel was featured in Next Urban Gear followed by the premier of the designer’s web site, druewho.com. The designer also began to produce a series of fashion showcases highlighting current collections on an annual basis. These showcases have become one of the most highly anticipated events of Northeast Ohio. The series began with “Sophisticated Funk”, which premiered the designers Fall/Winter 2001 collection at the Crooked River Supper Club, followed by “Urban Vibe” the Spring/Summer 2002 collection at Peabody’s Concert Club, the “F I R E” Collection at The Mirage on the Water in November 2003 featured the designers Fall/Winter 2003 Collection and the most recent installment “Urban Legend” featured the Summer 2004 collection at Cloud Nine Lounge in the Warehouse district.
The designer is also responsible for designing and styling the looks of some of Cleveland area’s local celebrities including Z 107.9’s “Mid-Day Diva” Robyn Simone, R & B Sensation, Tommy Johnson, the 107.9 Street Team, The ‘On-Point’ Coors Light Spokes models, R & B group S T Y A L, and The Ohio Classic Modeling Team, just to name a few. The designer works were also featured for the local rap artist “Brainz Davis” (Formerly M.C. Brainz) “FREAK” music video.
In an effort to give back to the community, in 2005, the designer developed, ‘Promises’, a program to sponsor high school students in need of prom attire and other amenities associated including hair, makeup, nails and footwear. Drue also worked closely with the Crozier Lee Foundation as the stylist/fashion consultant for the Public Access Show, “Help! I need a makeover” on Adelphia.
Currently, the Drue has extended her talents in the area of fashion as a freelance arts and entertainment writer for several local publications including The Urban Crusader News, Cleveland365.com, Epitome Magazine, as well as her own blog, “Confessions of a Clotheshorse (www.druewho.blogster.com). With the success of the designer’s latest collection “The Renaissance” in February of 2008, druChristine apparel is currently featured in the Cleveland-based fashion house, Pinky’s Dailey Planner, located at 2403 Professor Road in Tremont. The designer recently launched the website, www.druchristine.com with plans for an online store and styling services for specialty sizes.
